Even though I havent been much of an 'active' user, I have been visiting SOE about every day since late 2008. I have found lots of valuable information on many subjects, a lot of good readings and videos about thing we dont find in mainstream media. I am very sad to find out today that NING is changing its policies because lots of sites I visit on daily basis are with NING..
---- best thing is,we accept a reasonable price, from Ning. ...I have put aside some hundreds of dollars,in case :).
...I've checked other ''free sites'', they aren't really the same, ...more troubles, than ning.
...but in the end,we will do what's affordable for us.
Is there any way we can do a backup of the site and its content, all of it. It would be easier to pay the fee and not risk loosing data in the transfer. As many members we have, it wouldn't take much in donations to keep it paid for. Surly monthly services couldn't be expensive. I don't like what ning is doing, firing 69 of their 167 employees and charging service fees to the other tens of thousands of networks, when they are getting paid for the advertising. The more traffic the more the adds are seen. Web advertising is just like television commercials, sites with higher ratings get paid more by add companies. On top of that when they start charging service to the other networks and its between 20 or 30 dollars, then we are talking about over a million dollars a month. It sounds like greed to me, however it not the employees of ning itself, it the CEOs in charge. This is corporate America, its dog eat dog, much like beast of the wilderness. In a sense some humans haven't evolved at all.
I have disabled members on the below sites, if it comes to a transfer of networks then hopefully the current member list and all content can be imported (transferred) automatically.
I will leave it at this (i am approaching both Spruz and Socialgo to investigate member import possibilities) until we hear which services at what price NING will come up with. Thank you for all the suggestions, the two mentioned above seem to be the best alternative.
I had already taken the precaution and created a http://saviorsofearth.socialgo.com/ yesterday. NING stated that they would help with a transition. Prefably we can keep this site up and running if the service isnt to expensive. In the meantime I will try a few manual transfers of content.
