hi guys, without trying to be pushing buddhism or religiousness onto anyone, I would like to share some quotes from a being i hold deep respect for, the Buddha.
hopefully his words that are full of compassion and enlightenment, will help to inspire others. it did inspire me.
if anyone has their quotes from any other ascended masters, i would love to hear them too. i would love to hear words of enlightenment from other religions or ascended masters whom i've not had the chance of experiencing.

"Do not accept what you hear by report, do not accept tradition, do not accept a statement because it is found in our books, nor because it is in accord with your belief, nor because it is the saying of your teacher. Be lamps unto yourselves. Those who, either now or after I am dead, shall rely upon themselves only and not look for assistance to anyone besides themselves, it is they who shall reach the topmost height."
"All that we are is a result of what we have thought."
"The four catagories of existance, non-existance, both existance and non-existance, and neither existance nor non-existance, are spiderwebs among spiderwebs which can never take hold of the enormous bird of reality" (i dont understand the use of 'bird' here, will do some research...)
"Those who awaken never rest in one place.
Like swans, they rise and leave the lake.
On the air they rise and fly an invisible course.
Their food is knowledge.
They live on emptiness.
They have seen how to break free.
Who can follow them? "
"Let us live in joy, never falling sick like those who hate us. Let us live in freedom, without hatred even among those who hate."
""Be ye lamps unto yourselves, be a refuge to yourselves. Hold fast to
Truth as a lamp; hold fast to the Truth as a refuge. Look not for a refuge in anyone beside yourselves. And those, who shall be a lamp unto themselves, shall betake themselves to no external refuge, but holding fast to the Truth as their lamp, and holding fast to the Truth as their refuge, they shall reach the topmost height." - Buddha's Farewell Message to Ananda
"Meditation brings wisdom; lack of mediation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what hold you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom."
"When you have great joy, you will become Buddhas!"
"You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection."
"There is nothing more dreadful than the habit of doubt. Doubt separates people. It is a poison that disintegrates friendships and breaks up pleasant relations. It is a thorn that irritates and hurts; it is a sword that kills."
"Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth." (a very queer line indeed.. ;)
"Teach this triple truth to all: A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things which renew humanity."
"When you realize how perfect everything is you will tilt your head back and laugh at the sky" (LOL, sometimes i do that)
"Believe nothing, no matter where you read it or who has said it, not even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense."
"Since it is impossible to escape the result of our deeds, let us practice good works. Let us guard our thoughts that we do no evil, for as we sow so shall we reap. There are ways from light into darkness and from darkness into light. There are ways, also, from the gloom into deeper darkness, and from the dawn into brighter light. The wise man will use the light he has to receive more light. He will constantly advance in the knowledge of truth. Exhibit true superiority by virtuous conduct and the exercise of reason; meditate deeply on the vanity of earthly things, and understand the fickleness of life. Elevate the mind, and seek sincere faith with firm purpose; transgress not the rules of kingly conduct, and let your happiness depend, not upon external things, but upon your own mind."
"Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of that candle will not be shortened. Happiness is never decreased by being shared."
"Better than a thousand useless words is one word that gives peace."
"The fool who thinks he is wise is just a fool. The fool who knows he is a fool is wise indeed."
"Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one getting burned." (a timeless quote)
"Subhuti, you must not think that the Tathagata entertains the notion 'I wil bring all living beings to the shore of awakening.' Why? Becuase in reality there are no beings who can be liberated by the Tathagata. To entertaing the notion that thre are beings who can be liberated would be to partake in the idea of a self. a person, a being and a living soul. The Tathagata has taught that one must not seize upon these notions, and yet foolish common people have seized upon them. Subhuti, though the Tathagata use the words 'foolish common people,' in reality there are no such people. Such is merely a name. That is why they are called foolish common people."
"Our life is shaped by our mind; we become what we think. Suffering follows an evil thought as the wheels of a cart follow the oxen that draws it.
Our life is shaped by our mind; we become what we think. Joy follows a pure thought like a shadow that never leaves."
"All wrong-doing arises because of mind. If mind is transformed can wrong-doing remain?"
"When Shakyamuni Buddha was at Mount Grdhrakuta, he held up a flower to his listeners. Everyone was silent. Only Mahakashyapa broke into a broad smile. The Buddha said, "I have the True Dharma Eye, the Marvelous Mind of Nirvana, the True Form of the Formless, and the Subtle Dharma Gate, independent of words and transmitted beyond doctrine. This I have entrusted to Mahakashyapa." (my favourite 'silent sermon')
"Let yourself be open and life will be easier. A spoon of salt in a glass of water makes the water undrinkable. A spoon of salt in a lake is almost unnoticed."
"In the sky, there is no distinction of east and west; people create distinctions out of their own minds and then base them to be true."
"When we feel happy and peaceful, our happiness and peace radiates around us, and others can enjoy it as well. This is called 'the enjoyment of others of our body of bliss"
"A kind man who makes good use of wealth is rightly said to possess a great treasure; but the miser who hoards up his riches will have no profit."
