My wife and I saw something like this one night, but no boom and no spiral. It flew sorta in the same fashion, it came down then flew horizontal and then a blue beam came from behind and soon it vanished, but we did hear crickets though, hehe :)

In the even that this turns out /not/ to be a hoax, I'd like to see someone trying to explain that one as a failed missile test, or a refraction of the aurora borealis.
