Ego vs true self.

Can someone explain the difference between the ego and the true self to me? cause im finding it very hard to tell. Its something ive never fully understood, and if one is to conquer the ego, one must understand it.

My dreams keep telling me to destroy my fear, i have a feeling its got to do with the ego.

The old adage goes that there is nothing to fear but fear itself.

If you get the feeling that your fears have to do with your ego, then it follows that you are afraid you are either not all you can be, or pretending to be more than you are.

 

Either way, those are fears.

 

Everything begins by accepting that you are as you are now, the first step is to look into a mirror and accept that the image you see is you. You may have chosen to dress in a certain way for reasons that are your own, or decided to get a certain haircut for reasons that are your own, but those reasons, and this is important, were your own.

Yes, you may have done so at a time to fit in, but accept that this is so and move on. You chose to fit in and adopt the style you are currently wearing. The you in that mirror is still you.

If you wish to change anything about yourself, change it. Don't be held back by notions that you are somehow diminished by not having /made/ that change yet, the intent is what matters.

 

What is the difference between the ego and the true self? A point of view.

 

Your ego is you but you are not your ego. What and who you are is much greater than the sum of its parts. Stop agonising about the difference between you and your ego, because only someone who is /not/ ruled by their ego can even begin to frame that question.
