I find change a difficult business.

Maybe that’s because there seem to be so many levels to it.

The most superficial is agreeing to change while having no intention of doing so.

We move from there to higher and higher levels of commitment. We’re committed to “taking a look.” Then we’re committed to changing.

But commitment is commitment. It isn’t change.

There is an actual moment in which we change our vote from a no to a yes, or vice versa, and make it stick. That can come about because of a sudden event that makes change crucial like an accident or a loss. Or it can come about because of an alteration in circumstances like a new job or military commission....+@
