The Scotichronicon, a 15th century history of Scotland by the monk, Walter Bower open with an account of an incredible journey.

In the "third age, in the time of Moses, a Greek prince called Gaythelos was expelled from his father's kingdom and sailed to Egypt.

For his bravery and daring, he won the hand of Pharoah's daughter, Scota.

Due to war and strife, Gaythelos left Egypt with his wife Scota, settling in what is now Spain. His son, Hiber sailed north and discovered an island (now Ireland) and named it "Scotia" after his mother. Scotland, formerly called "Albany" came to be so-called after it was taken over by the Scoti.

Few mainstream historians have given the Scota myth credence.

Scotichronicon, a 15th century history of Scotland by the monk, Walter Bower claims that Spain, Ireland and Scotland were ruled by the descendants of Scota, a princess from ancient Egypt. Considered pseudo-history by the mainstream, recent DNA discoveries suggest there might be something to this story, after all.
