An interesting experiment! The + sign in the middle moves over, then there are two of them. The pink dots become green, and both dance around the screen, the reason being that concentrating on the middle, skews our vision. It works the same way as those pictures that are composed of various colored spots, with a picture hidden inside, until you can unfocus your vision. Then the picture pops out at you.
