International Heroes Day

Today we have lots of special days that we celebrate, Christmas, thanksgiving (for our American cousins), new year, birthdays. And some entirely invented by greetings card companies: mothers day, fathers day, St Valentines day.

Well I propose a new day to celebrate, International heroes day or all heroes day. This would be for people who risk there lives every day or have done in the past to keep us safe, like Fireman, Paramedics, ER Doctors and Nurses, Special Rescue Operatives, Coast Guard, the Police.

I even think the Military should be listed. Even if we think that current and past wars were wrong (as I do, I was in the protest against invading Iraqi in London), these people still put there lives on the line for us. Soon there will be no one left who lived through the second world war and I think that those individuals should receive special respect.

I think that there should be no greetings card, this would just cheapen it, unless it’s home made. What we should do is honour whoever we know or even meet in our travels. Maybe even organising help or even a meal for homeless veterans.
