The distinguished philosopher and spiritual master OMRAAM MIKHAEL AIVANHOV (1900 – 1986) was born in Bulgaria. In 1937 he moved to France where he gave most of his teaching.
One of the most striking aspects of the Master’s teaching is the great variety of ways in which he presented his central theme: humanity's quest for perfection.
Whatever the topic under discussion, he invariably dealt with it in terms of how we can grow in spiritual maturity and live better lives.

"Jesus said, ‘I am the light of the world’. But in the Sermon on the Mount he also said to his followers, ‘You are the light of the world’. So, what he said for himself, he also said for us. Light is heavenly fire, a spark of which dwells within us as our spirit, and if, from this spark, we gradually succeed in illuminating our whole being, we will possess the same powers and bring the same blessings as does light. There is no point claiming to be Christian, a disciple of Christ, if you do not work to achieve what Jesus himself achieved to be able to say, ‘I am the light of the world’.
Of course, anyone can claim, ‘I am the light of the world’, but if they haven’t first done the work that would give them the right to say these words they expose themselves to grave danger. Why, yes, many people considered insane doubtless possess an intuition of their true divine nature, but it isn’t enough to have this intuition and broadcast it to everyone. They have to try to make it a reality and, in the meantime, remain humble and work."

"There are many highly educated people in the world with highly trained intellects, and that’s good. But that is not what will save humanity; quite the opposite, for it is not the nature of the intellect to display kindness, patience or generosity. On the contrary, those who have a highly developed intellect often try to deceive others, to control them, exploit and enslave them.
Look at how all these highly gifted intellectuals behave, how often they become critical, scornful and wily. You will say, ‘Oh, that’s because they are ill-natured.’ No, the fault lies with the education they received, which places value on the intellect to the detriment of the heart and so reinforces people’s lower nature.
They are given weapons without being given the ideal of improving themselves, and then, of course, they use these to satisfy their most basic appetites. When will these ‘educators’ decide to give people knowledge that will allow them to work on controlling their lower nature?"
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov
