Sola and wind power

I Know that sola and wind power though being sustainable are not technically the free energy that we are all looking for but I Just wondered what peoples thoughts were on the development of these two technologies. Is it a waist of time, is it better than nothing, is it part of the solution?

Solar power is a good technology I think. It has almost no impact on the environment. Wind generators on a large scale can impact the environment. There has been studies to show algea blooms have increased in the areas where off shore wind farms have been installed. We really don't know the long term impacts of wind farms.

Solar cells are still advancing in efficiency. The also last many years if well cared for. If needed they can even be recycled.
