What's Really Happening in Ukraine?
I have been frustrated and very disappointed in the so called alternative media for continuing to publish disinformation about Ukraine. I can't believe that these lies can even be believed, but knowing how disinformation works, I'm not surprised.
I live in Ukraine. My daughter has been on the Maidan since December and I have been there myself. What the media is reporting is that fascist groups of Ukrainians are trying to disrupt the country and someone has to "save" Ukraine. That someone is on one side the U.S., on the other side Russia.
In the first place, the supposed roving groups of terrorists consist of Russian special forces. They were the ones that sent snipers and started killing the protesters. When any of these persons was captured, they had their insignia stripped off which on the top showed Ukrainian, and underneath they were wearing Russian insignia. Proof that these were not Ukrainians doing the shooting.
Putin is sending propaganda in the media saying that Ukrainian terrorists are doing all the fighting and shooting of people in all areas of Ukraine. The truth is that it is Putin's troops doing the shooting and terrorizing. Since people tend to believe the media, all countries around Ukraine think this is true. They are terrified of visiting Ukraine because of the supposed roving bandits.
How can anyone believe that millions of people all over Ukraine turning out in protest was the result of a minority terrorist group. The Ukrainian people finally had enough of the lies, deception and corruption. The election of Yanukovich was corrupt, he bought votes, and the vote counters changed votes right in front of election observers. The Ukrainian people thought they had elected someone, and they woke up the next day to find the other one elected. They were bewildered. So much for the democratic process.
The alternative media is insisting that the "democratically elected" president was chased out of office by a military coup and now they want to take over the country, and this must be stopped. And that America wants Ukraine to be in the European Union so that Ukraine will be on the side of the West, not Russia. That much is true, but that doesn't mean Ukraine should be "given" to the Russians.
Ukraine has a long bitter history with communist Russia. The bolsheviks forcibly took over the country and killed and tortured and starved millions of people in the process. The last thing that Ukrainians want is to have Russian rule back in Ukraine.
Yet that is what is happening. And no one is stopping it. I can't believe that Anonymous put out a video saying that the Ukrainian people want Yanukovich back, and the fascist thugs need to be eradicated. The last thing the people want is Yanukovich back, and the fascist thugs happen to be Ukrainian freedom fighters who are defending the sovereignty of Ukraine. They are considered heroes by the majority of Ukrainians - they are the ones who took the sniper's bullets and kept walking toward the armed police while their companions were falling all around them. They never turned and ran, but the police finally did. These "thugs" are young intelligent idealistic young people, many of them students, and many of them of the older generation, who desperately want a free Ukraine. They are the true heroes.
I feel betrayed by the alternative media. Are they blind? Or have they been taken over by disinformation specialists. Has anyone bothered to come to Ukraine to find out the truth?
The Ukrainian people would prefer to have America on its side. Anything but Russia. Admittedly America wants Ukraine for its own purposes but what are the people to do in this situation? Now that Russia has taken over Crimea, all the past Soviet propensities have surfaced. There is a shortage of food, minorities are having to flee, Ukrainian is not allowed anymore, etc. The so called Russian minority, who supposedly voted to join Russia, will eventually find that Russian rule is not all that it's cracked up to be. Russian rule is harsh.
In the past ten years, many Russians have "escaped" to Ukraine, where the atmosphere is milder. Ukrainians are tolerant. Ukraine, even under the rule of a tyrant, was easier to live in than Russia. The majority of Russians don't know that, they believe the propaganda that Russia is the best, and Ukraine belongs to Russia. They can't understand why Ukrainians don't want to join with Russia. they have been lied to and the lies continue, getting bigger and bigger.
I don't know how all this will end, but can someone please tell me how to convince the "alternative media" that they are spreading lies? To please check their facts, and not all follow someone's false lead that says Ukrainians are better off with Russia. I don't want to live under Russian rule again. How do we get the word out? We are trying over here, but the lies out there continue. Please help! The truth is all that matters, and it will be the only thing that can help. Thanks for listening. I hope someone will hear.....
