It has been said that the word “aloha” actually has two definitions. “Alo” means the center or heart of the universe, while “ha” is the breath or spirit of the Creator.
It has also been said that aloha cannot be found outside of ourselves. It can only be uncovered at the center of our hearts. That is where it lives. That is where it awaits us.
And once found, aloha makes our lives whole, gives power to our words, fills our actions with purpose and assures that our every thought is of benefit to each other and to the world around us.
Aloha is the essence of the Creator’s love, and when that love is expressed through our voices, our minds, our hearts, and our hands, that world becomes a better place. You might ask, “how can this be? There are millions and millions of hearts in the world, how can aloha be found in mine?”
There is only one heart, one center, one spirit, one aloha. Find aloha at the core of your own being and you will have instantly found it in everyone and everything.



Mahealani Kuamo'o-Henry, Kumu 'Elele o Na Kupuna

...is a kanaka maoli-native Hawaiian Aunty and Kumu from Puna, on the Big Island of Hawaii. Aunty is a teacher-messenger for the spiritual voices of the ancestors within the strong lineage of na Kumu, Kahu, & Kahuna (teachers, guardians, priests, priestess/ advisors and healers) under the leadership of her ancestral Kupuna-Kane (grandfather), named Kaiwikuamo’o kekuaokalani.” This translates as the “backbone strength of the heavenly chiefs.”.

is the belief system and method for “making right more right, the path.” Many are surprised to learn about this form of Ho’opono pono rooted in the Aloha Spirit rather than of the Christian and Western adaptation for “conflict resolutions.” …Ho’opono Pono Ke Ala predates both adaptations, and brings forward the Aloha for self and to promote “self-best” through self-permission to recognize and accept self-greatness,” to experience it moment-by-moment in all areas of one’s life, and to lay at waste the “fear-based” mind sets for power, control, sins, and damnations. It is the ancient knowing that you are obviously the best “you” ever, there are no duplicates, you’re It, the original YOU; the god-goddess makes no mistakes!

Kahu means to cook, or take care of an oven, and came to mean to take care of. It came to stand for caregivers.

Here's a section from Wise Secrets of Aloha by Kahuna Harry Uhane Jim. I've haven't met him yet, but he seems wonderful.

"So to answer the question "what is a kahuna?" let's start by declaring that a kahuna is only someone who has, by lineage of blood, birth, and initiation, become so deeply interwoven with the teachings that there is no difference between the teaching and the teacher. The wisdom is fully integrated in the exemplary life and body of the kahuna.

Kahuna, according to kahuna Papa David Kaonohiokala Bray, the grandfather of Harry's wife Sila, is a compound word from kahu, meaning an honored or high servant/caretaker who has or takes charge of persons or property, and na, meaning clamness and quiet evolution of the emotions. Thus, a Kahuna is the calm, high servant of those who may be seeking higher emotional evolution....You see how this definition goes further into what kahuna means than the definition used by researcher Long, who said Ka, means "the" and huna means "concealed knowledge." Long's "concealed knowledge" is quite a distance in meaning from "keeper of the secrets" in Hawaiian. Harry defines kahuna as a "keeper of the wise and hidden secrets." Ka is also the root syllable of Kane, the Hawaiian triune of "being of humanness." Kane, whose vibratory meaning, according to Harry, is the congress of our three selves. Papa Bray taught that kahunas are a class of trained people who serve humanity for goodness and truth. When kahunas are trained, they are anchored in knowing God in all life. Kahunas align to the God of Light within."

Kahunas underwent extensive training in their field. With a qualifying term, there are other kinds of kahunas as well, such as kahuna lapa'au, a physician; kahuna pule, a priest; kahuna kalai la'au, a carpenter; kahuna kala, a silversmith....
