On the outside, we humans seem very much alike, each possessing a number of similar defining features. But on a deeper physiological level, we are quite unique in our composition and basic needs.

Our physical bodies are partly a manifestation of our ancestry, and we're often able to learn from our parents and grandparents as to the particular health challenges that "run in our family."

In my family, one of the big ones is thyroid disease. I've been aware of it for most of my life and understand the struggles that can arise when this important gland is out of balance. The thyroid influences everything in the body, including the eyes, heart, brain, bones, bowels and mood.

As it turns out, my family is not alone.

According to the American Thyroid Association, 30% of the population will get a thyroid-related condition in their lifetime. And 60% of these cases go undiagnosed!

This is a big public health issue that hasn't been getting the attention it needs, until now.

I want to share a free documentary series called The Thyroid Secret that was created by my friend Dr. Izabella Wentz.

A few years ago, she was brought to her knees by a thyroid condition called Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which is an autoimmune disorder that silently attacks you from the inside out. She was suffering serious chronic pain, and her once cheerful disposition was laced with grimaces as her joints made her feel like she was 90 instead of 27.

Izabella's fatigue was so debilitating that she had to cut back on her hours at work, her IBS flared constantly, and her hair began to fall out at an alarming rate.

When she finally found out that she had Hashimoto’s, a combination of relief and dread washed over her like a tidal wave. She was keenly aware that this disease might shatter her dreams of childbearing and it broke her heart.

Izabella simply refused to take the answers the doctors were giving her as a life sentence. Instead, she decided to become a human guinea pig and see if she could recover her health on her own.

It took a lot of exploration and a fierce trust in the natural healing processes of the body, but guess what? She did just that.

Izabella fully recovered and has made it her life's mission to help others do the same. Taking a stand for her own health resulted in a blueprint for those suffering with similar thyroid issues, and she shares all of it in her new docu-series.
