Statements and Quotes Regarding UFOs

Although it has never been officially declared to the open public, that UFOs are in fact a real phenomenon worthy of scientific investigation, many famous statements can be found, made by some very credible people of highly social and often political statures.......

This "flying saucer" situation is not all imaginary or seeing too much in some natural phenomena. Something is really flying around.
- Air Force Base Intelligence Report, FLYING DISCS, July 30, 1947

It is the considered opinion of some elements that the object may in fact represent an interplanetary craft of some kind.
- Draft Intelligence Collections Memorandum by Brig. Gen. George Shulgen, Oct. 28, 1947

It must be accepted that some type of flying objects have been observed, although their identification and origin are not discernible.
- U.S. Air Intelligence Report # 100-203-79, ANALYSIS OF FLYING OBJECTS IN THE U.S., Dec. 10, 1948

This is the most puzzling case in the radar/visual files. The apparently rational, intelligent behavior of the UFO suggests a mechanical device of unknown origin as the most probable explaination.
- Air Force Project Blue Book, SPECIAL REPORT NO. 14, May 5, 1955

General Nathan D. Twining
1957-1960 Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff:

The phenomena reported is something real and not visionary or fictitious. There are objects probably approximating the shape of a disc, of such appreciable size as to appear to be as large as a man-made aircraft. The reported operating characteristics such as extreme rates of climb, maneuverability (particurlarly in roll), and action which must be considered evasive when sighted or contacted by friendly aircraft and radar, lend belief to the possibility that some of the objects are controlled either manually, automatically, or remotely.
- Sept. 23, 1947 letter to the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Airforces

Harry S. Truman
President of the United States 1945 - 1953:

I can assure you that flying saucers, given that they exist, are not contructed by any power on earth.
- April 4, 1950 White House Press Conference

Professor Herman Oberth
German rocket expert, considered one of the 3 fathers of the space age:

It is my thesis that flying saucers are real and that they are space ships from another solar system. I think that they possibly are manned by intelligent observers who are members of a race that may have been investigating our earth for centuries.
- THE AMERICAN WEEKLY, Oct. 24, 1954

Gerald Ford
President of the United States 1974 - 1977:

No doubt, you have noted the recent flurry of newspaper stories about unidentified flying objects. I have taken special interest in these accounts because many of the latest reported sightings have been in my home state of Michigan. Because I think there may be substance to some of these reports and because I believe the American people are entitled to a more thorough explanation than has been given them by the Air Force to date, I am proposing that either the Science and Astronautics Committee or the Armed Services Committee of the House, schedule hearings on the subject of UFOs and invite testimony from both the executive branch of the Government and some of the persons who claim to have seen UFOs. In the firm belief that the American public deserves a better explanation then that thus far given by the Air Force, I strongly recommend that there be a committee investigation of the UFO phenomenon. I think we owe it to the people to establish credibility regarding UFOs and to produce the greatest possible enlightenment on this subject.
- From a letter sent to L. Mendel Rivers (Chairman of the Armed Services Committee), March 28, 1966

Senator Barry M. Goldwater, Sr.
1964 republican presidential candidate:

The subject of UFOs is one that has interested me for some long time. About ten or twelve years ago, I made an effort to find out what was in the building at Wright Patterson Air Force Base where the information is stored that has been collected by the Air Force, and I was understandably denied the request. It is still classified above Top Secret. I have, however, heard that there is a plan under way to release some, if not all, of this material in the near future. I'm just as anxious to see this material as you are, and I hope we will not have to wait too much longer.
- March 28, 1975 letter to researcher Shlomo Arnon

Jimmy Carter
President of the United States 1977 - 1981:

If I become President, I'll make every piece of information this country has about UFO sightings available to the public, and the scientists. I am convinced that UFOs exist because I've seen one.
- June 8, 1976 The National Enquirer, later confirmed by Jim Purks in an April 20, 1979 letter

Gordon Cooper
Astronaut (Mercury-Atlas 9, Gemini 5), USAF:

I believe that these extra-terrestrial vehicles and their crews are visiting this planet from other planets, which obviously are more technically advanced than we are here on earth. I feel that we need to have a top level, coordinated program to scientifically collect and analyze data from all over the earth concerning any type of encounter, and to determine how best to interface with these visitors in a friendly fashion.
- Nov. 9, 1978 letter to Grenada's Ambassador to the United Nations
